The Duke Soft Matter Center is an interdisciplinary effort to create an intellectual climate at Duke University based on a common language of soft matter. The Center facilitates collaborations between faculty in the Duke Pratt School of Engineering (ECE, BME and MEMS), Trinity College of Arts and Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and, Cell Biology), and the Duke School of Medicine. The vision is for the Duke Soft Matter Center to act as the headquarters for Soft Matter locally, nationally, and internationally.
We will achieve this through:
- Connecting complimentary educational programs in Pratt Engineering with Trinity College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine
- Creating an environment for multi-investigator, interdisciplinary, cross-departmental center grant proposals
- Building sponsor and industrial connections
- Coordinating and leading soft matter activities at the local, national, and international level. We will act as the headquarters for ACS Triangle Soft Matter Discussion Group, Triangle Soft Matter Workshop, and the IUPAP Soft Matter Working Group
